Overview

Tigh na Mara is a beautiful two storey family house in the crofting township of Reiff with a one acre enclosed garden and outside decking which provides a perfect spot from which to look out at the extraordinary views of the stunning sunsets over Reiff Bay. There is a beautiful beach directly in front of the house and dramatic mountain and sea views all around. The house sleeps up to nine guests and there is plenty of off-road parking.

The master bedroom has a king size bed and an ensuite with shower and bath. There is a twin room with single beds and another bedroom with twin beds and a bunkbed – perfect for children – plus a small room with a single bed. All the bedrooms have stunning views overlooking the sea and mountains beyond.

All three bathrooms have recently been renovated and there is a new boiler so hot water is always available. The bathroom downstairs has a large stand-alone shower and both bathrooms upstairs have large baths ideal for soaking in after a long walk. The ensuite bathroom adjoining the master bedroom upstairs also has a stand-alone shower with sensational views out to the Isles of Harris and Lewis.

At the heart of the house is a lovely spacious open plan and well-equipped kitchen with panoramic views from the big bay window over Reiff Bay. We are keen cooks (Anna is a food writer and stylist and has worked with numerous famous chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Mary Berry) and we have made a point of kitting the kitchen out properly with everything you could need. There is a double electric oven, fridge, microwave, kettle, dishwasher, food processor, electric whisk, baking tins, measuring scales, crockery, cutlery, oven dishes, glasses, pots and Yamaha wifi speakers which are compatible with iPhone and Spotify.

A lovely light-filled room with fabulous sea views on two sides, a wood-burning stove and deep, comfortable sofas – perfect for curling up after a long walk on the beach or up a hill. We have made a point of filling the bookcase with lots of good books and stocking up on puzzles, board games and DVDs. There is a large flat-screen TV/DVD player and excellent iphone/Spotify compatible Yamaha HiFi.

At the back of the house is a boot room and laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer, laundry pulley, chest freezer and large fridge. The boot room is handy for drying out wet beach gear or soggy dogs.

We have now installed satellite broadband in both the house and the games room so WiFi connection is excellent. Phone reception can be a little unreliable, but if you enable WiFi calling on your phone it should work well.

Behind the house is the newly renovated Games Room. Work was completed in 2023. This is a great rainy day place for the whole family. There is a wood-burning stove to keep you cosy, a large TV, pool table, darts board, babyfoot table and upstairs on the mezzanine level there are lots of huge beanbags perfect for relaxing with a good book.
